The Nederlander Organization purchased the Adelphi Theatre in 1984, becoming co-owners with Andrew Lloyd Webber in 1993, shortly before the opening of his Tony award winning musical, Sunset Boulevard.

Other famous productions at the Adelphi Theatre include Gertrude Lawrence in Cole Porter’s Nymph Errant, Ivor Novello’s The Dancing Years, Bless the Bride, Beatrice Lillie as Auntie Mame, Van Johnson in The Music Man, Lionel Bart’s Blitz! and Maggie May, Charlie Girl with Anna Neagle, a revival of Me and My Girl originally starring Robert Lindsay and Emma Thompson and in the Adelphi Theatre’s longest run (over nine years), the new Broadway production of Kander and Ebb’s Chicago.

More recently, notable productions include the worldwide premiere of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Love Never Dies and the wonderfully successful transfers of the National Theatre’s record-breaking One Man Two Guvnors and Chichester Festival’s Sweeney Todd starring Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton.

On 5 December 2012 the theatre hosted the world premiere of The Bodyguard: The Musical , based on the 1992 film starring Whitney Houston. The show closed at the Adelphi Theatre on 29 August 2014, to make way for World Premiere of Made in Dagenham. The Adelphi is currently the home to the multi-award winning Kinky Boots, which had its European premiere at the Adelphi in August 2015.
