Green Tourism

In February 2015, the Dominion Theatre was the first West End theatre to be presented a prestigious GOLD Award by the Green Tourism Scheme.

Since 2010 the theatre has reduced its carbon footprint by over 40%. Extensive refurbishment and restoration projects, installation of state of the art toilet facilities, LED lighting and highly efficient heating and cooling systems to the theatre, have resulted in huge reductions in water consumption and large energy savings which have seen the theatre save over 380 tonnes of carbon.

Continual Improvements

In 2014, the Dominion installed new ultra low nitrous-oxide boilers and a brand new chiller system which are centrally controlled and monitored by a building management system to ensure optimum performance and efficiency. As well as improving local air quality, these boilers have realised the following savings:

  • 700,000 kWh of gas per year compared to 2010
  • Reduced gas consumption by 40%
  • 80% reduction in Mono-Nitrogen Oxides

During 2014 we also installed the first large-scale retro fit heating/cooling recovery system.  This system will further assist us in our goal of achieving a 50% carbon reduction by the middle of 2016!

Since 2005, the Dominion Theatre has had an environmental policy which guides our attitude to waste, our use of resources, and our awareness of the impact we have on the world around us.  We are members of the Camden Climate Change Alliance, the London Green Theatre Network, and have joined forces with Cleaner Air In London.
